Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society has served the Mid Essex community since 1867. Our Funeral Division is part of a national alliance with 25 other Co-operatives in the United Kingdom. This makes it the nation's largest funeral service provider and is called, the Co-operative Funeral Service.

Although part of this alliance, Chelmsford Star Co-operative Funeral Services operates as an independent Funeral Service provider, serving Chelmsford, Braintree, Ingatestone, Danbury, Writtle and surrounding areas. Our professional team of staff are here to help and support families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

As Members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the Funeral Arbitration Scheme we agree to comply with the Principles and its Code of Practice. We co-operate at all times with Trading Standards Offices, Citizens Advice Bureau, consumer support groups, and any other organisation representing clients in the resolution of complaints or disputes.

In January 2005 we renewed our membership with the Funeral Planning Authority and adhere to the authorities strict and comprehensive Code of Conduct, designed to ensure fair dealings with clients who purchase an inflation proof Pre-payment Funeral Plan with us.

Our accreditation with Investors in People means that our staff are professionally trained in all aspects of funeral arranging and aftercare.

From 2003 to 2008 we were recognised each year in the Mid Essex Business Awards and in 2008 the Essex Business Awards for our high standard of Customer Service by winning the best small company category. Also in 2004 we were awarded winners for best Public company in the Community Award for our FREE Bereavement & Aftercare Support Groups

As part of our complete service, our dedicated staff will guide families through the arrangements, procedures and legal requirements. We have a clear pricing policy and a full written estimate of funeral directors charges and disbursement fees together with confirmation of the arrangements will be provided before the funeral.

Our staff live in the communities and have well established relationships with local crematoria, cemetery, churches, clergy, doctors, hospitals, nursing/residential homes, HM Coroner, registrars, solicitors and local authorities. Together we aim to provide the highest standard of care, to deliver an efficient and dignified professional service.

Modern and tastefully decorated, our funeral homes are welcoming and comfortable with the provision of private Chapels of Rest where a loved one can remain peacefully until the day of the funeral.
